52 Stories, 52 Weeks: June [The Last of the Batch]

I fell quite a bit behind, but I caught up eventually!  #22:  The Leap & The Way Down There were two fears of mine. One in mid-swim in the spring of youth. Then there was one as someone approaching the twilight of their time here. In youth, the biggest fear was daring to get to the top of the mountain. In the twilight years, I now see that the biggest fear is that there aren’t anymore mountains to climb. I stare at one of those fears now. There was a particular hill I walked as a kid. The first time was terrifying because I couldn’t see the top of the hill. Or what was on the other side. So I had to get over that hill to find out.  I know how to remedy this situation after that. I’ll climb the biggest mountain. The last one I haven’t climbed. It took awhile, but I did get up there.  I don’t see the ground from all the way up here. I will find out. I have to now. I jump an effortless leap and down I go. The air is guiding me back down to the Earth.  I d...

Wagnerswriting.blogspot.com: New Mission Statement

So I've been kicking around the 52 Stories, 52 Weeks thing since January and my intention was to kinda develop my audience/interacting with followers, but the results have been 'meh' at best; in terms of viewership and me phoning in the stories. That doesn't really help the reader nor the writer. It was a nice challenge for sure, however I think it's time to put that to bed so that I can focus on something more worthwhile.  I recently rediscovered my love for creating comics. Now I've been writing comics for many, many years and projects and artists would just slip through my hands since about 2017? Scripts are great and all, but it means nothing unless an artist can bring it to life. So I thought I'd give it a shot. I recently bought an iPad and am slowly building up my art skills to bring some stories of mine to life.  An interesting fact about me is that from about ages 7-12ish, I wanted to be a cartoonist! Like Bill Watterson, Dav Pilkey, and Charles Sc...

52 Stories, 52 Weeks: May

May the stories entertain you, I guess.  #18: “Check Point”  I won’t be here forever, but I don’t think anyone, nor anything should be. Let’s just enjoy the nice weather, talk of our lives thus far, share a little of one another and call it a day. If you’re here tomorrow then I’ll be glad. If you’re not, I’ll move onto the next thing and keep my spirits up. Then in private moments I’ll think of you and me. Fondly. It’s memories that I hold dear to me as if you were still here.  I’m a check point. I’m a security blanket when life becomes too turbulent to maintain by oneself. I seek no competition, no glory, no conquering. Just conversation and the allowance of dreams to see the real, if for only a brief moment. If it’s the best case scenario, then maybe you find new hope to make those dreams of yours come true. Now that’s something.  You have to move along now? I understand. I’m not one to keep people waiting. I will not beg, either. We both have our lives to li...

It's My Birthday... Here's a Snippet of My Novella

Hey all! Today's my 28th birthday and I'm also doing something equally as exciting. I'm gearing up to do another promotion cycle of a piece of work I'm doing. This time it's a novella (a story around 17,500 - 39,999 words)! Below and in the link is the first 5 pages of this mini book. I had hoped I'd have it finished by this time and printed and in people's hands, but oh yeah. It's better to polish something than have something out just for the sake of having it out.  So in my calculations I should have this 100% done and printed sometime in August/September. It'll also looking to go the route of Pay What You Want for the digital edition and most likely $5 - $7 for a physical copy (depending on how hefty the word count comes out to be.)  The story is called (for the time being), "The Exchange of Secrets." It's a fantasy tale in the vain of Neil Gaiman and Patrick Rothfuss. It focuses on a young boy wandering in the forest in search of s...

52 Stories, 52 Weeks: April

Here's April's batch of stories - we keep on trucking. #13: “The Tip of the Arrow” Arrows fly up ahead, clouding above. Descending like the casting of angels falling from the heavens. On the ground are enemies that need to be made an example of. These arrows will spill out the contents of their targets, showing precisely what they're made of: Fear and blood.  The first wave was from us. The second wave approaches from the enemy line. Bows pulled back. Release. The arrows block out the sun, for just a moment, turning the bloody day into night. There’s a slight chill in the air, cold even. Then the light came back. The sun welcoming us like angels to the Kingdom of Heaven. With its light comes its angels. Arrows soaring through the air; effortless, majestic, as if to fly.  The tip of the arrow became God that day. Soldiers on the battlefield became arrows, angels freeing from the Earth with the flood of crimson. Watch us ascend like arrows toward the sky. See just what we’re ...
